Victorian Christmas Customs at Ranfurly House
10th Dec 2019
The Primary 7s enjoyed a day out in Dungannon learning much from both Heather, the artist and Mrs Smith the housekeeper from 1845. We made paper cones and birds as decorations for the Christmas tree using paper and recycling wrapping paper. Mrs Smith, Lord Northland's head housekeeper told us all about a green-suited Saint Nicholas, receiving gifts on St. Stephen's Day and the kinds of food, decorations and games familiar to Victorian households around Christmas time. A great day was had altogether, rounded off with a game off 'HA-HA, HE-HE, HAW-HAW'.
