School Traffic.

21st Mar 2017

Dear Parent/Guardian,

There have been a number of complaints regarding the traffic outside the school gates in the morning and at home times. I would like to stress that both the PSNI and the DOE as well as the Transport Department of the Education Authority, Southern Region have all been involved in carrying out observations of the traffic at peak times for St Patrick’s PS.

In addition, the following staggered finishing times are also in place and staff has been asked to ensure that times are adhered to:

  • P1 & 2 pupils will be ready for collection at 1:50pm and if there is an older sibling in P3 they too will be ready to leave at 1:50pm. P3 will be ready to leave at 2:00pm.
  • P4 and P5 will be ready for collection at 2:50pm along with any older siblings in P6 & P7. Please ensure your children know if they are leaving at 2:50pm.

As a courtesy to the residents in Annaghbann across from the school, we ask that you respect the rights of the residents to enter and exit their homes during drop off and pick-up times at the school.

It is essential that parents/guardians/carers/child minders who are collecting children by car, DO NOT at any time, block the gates at the front of the school and also SHOULD NOT double park thereby blocking the main road or reducing it to single file traffic only.

No pupil will be permitted to cross the road to get a lift; the adult collecting them must cross the road and collect the pupil(s) from the school yard. This is put in place as a Child Protection and Health and Safety measure, which is within the scope of the school, to ensure every child’s safety when being collected each day. These arrangements are also the only options when dropping children off in the mornings.

I would respectfully ask all adults to please show full regard and compliance with the requests contained in this letter, that are there to protect every child who attends St Patrick’s PS, and the community within which the school is located.

Kind regards,

Anne Mc Guinness

Principal
